8 Pinterest Marketing Strategies for Creative Business
Fun fact: Pinterest reported 431 million monthly active users in February 2022
That’s a LOT of potential for finding new clients and customers. This powerful search engine (it’s like a prettier version of Google) is a dream marketing tool for creative business owners!
Adding Pinterest to your marketing strategy can help you drive large amounts of new traffic to your existing products and/or content. Plus, Pinterest is less interactive than traditional social media platforms (like Instagram and Facebook) so you don’t have to be as “social”.
8 Pinterest Marketing Strategies for Creative Business
Pinterest is the perfect tool for creative business owners who already have killer content (think blogs, tutorials, youtube videos, or product links) that needs to be seen by more fans and potential clients. So let’s get into it. Here are 8 Pinterest marketing strategies to implement today:
1. Great graphics
This is top priority. There are so many beautiful pins competing for attention, so focus on quality images to stand out! I recommend Canva for creating pin graphics. Canva is a free graphic design app that’s easy to use for non-graphic designers. ;) It’s super easy to use templates and create multiple graphics for each post. There are all kinds of great templates available too!
2. Commit to the long game
Marketing on Pinterest is an excellent idea for EVERY creative business. But specifically, this is the best place for you to start marketing your business if you can’t commit to posting and engaging daily on Instagram or Facebook. Both of those social media platforms are valuable for small businesses, but Pinterest can give you steady views on your content and products without requiring regular engagement (if you plan ahead a little that is).
This “visual search engine” can yield tremendous results if you don’t mind practicing a little patience! Just don’t go into it expecting to become an overnight star. Commit to 90 days of pinning daily, and watch your brand take off!
Annnnd if that still feels like a lot, don’t worry! With professional templates and the right tools, you can show up daily on Pinterest without even logging in. Want to get a jump-start on your Pinterest game? Book a free call to see how I can help!
3. Quality over quantity
Back in the “old days” of Pinterest, you could post up to 100 pins/ day and the top strategy was “the more the merrier”. But the Pinterest algorithm is getting more sophisticated and now it rewards NEW and original content. 1-5 pins per day should be more than enough, as long as the pin images are high quality and original, the captions are thoughtful and include keywords, and you’re pinning to relevant boards!
4. Keywords are key
Keywords are the basis of any SEO or digital marketing strategy… so why do they seem so mysterious? Keywords are truly just descriptive words that define your specific niche or topic. Try choosing 3-5 brand keywords that describe your content and business and that you can reuse regularly. Then choose 3-5 topical keywords for each pin, based on content and your ideal clients search needs.
5. Keep it fresh
Gone are the days of re-pinning your same designs over and over on loop. Pinterest is now rewarding original pins by giving them top priority to be searched and found by users… but there is still one trick. By using design templates and a design tool like Canva, you can easily create multiple pins for each of your links. Pinterest still sees these as original content and you’re able to share your posts and products in more ways and more often!
6. Set it and forget it!
Ok it’s not QUITE that simple, but with the help of the Tailwind app you really can schedule weeks worth of pins all at once. That way your Pinterest marketing strategy is going strong and consistent while you’re running the rest of your business! If you haven’t tried Tailwind, here’s $15 off (that’s a whole month to try it for FREE)!
7. Idea Pins
You may have noticed, but short form video is having a MOMENT. Tiktok, Youtube, Reels… and now Idea Pins. Find a way to incorporate this new feature into your strategy and you’ll notice more new followers, engagement, clicks, and traffic!
8. Boards
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you’ll have to archive your “cute puppies” and “home DIY” boards… or at least make them secret. Stick to boards that are relevant and helpful to your target audience. They should compliment your business and help your dream clients. Bonus points if they includes of those keywords from #4.
How to be successful on Pinterest as a creative business
So which strategy will you start with? Just like anything else, start small and work on your Pinterest marketing consistently. And don’t forget to track your results so you can celebrate the growth!
